It's almost time for school to start!  Tonight is the kindergarten open house.  I'm meeting some nice families and many young students.  Students in kindergarten don't have art, but it's very nice to meet them anyway.  I am in my room learning some computer programs to use while I'm teaching.  I'm also trying to figure out if the speakers in the ceiling are hooked-up to the computer.  I want to bring music to play while we make art and ceiling speakers would sound the best!   I might have to ask someone because I can't quite figure it out.
I am very excited about school next week.  I am also excited about the holiday weekend- I have two cookouts to go to!

Today I had my first day of new teacher induction for the Milan school district.  There are a lot of new teachers this year.  This makes me feel good because I won't be the only new teacher in the district.  My friend from school is the new high school art teacher, so that makes me especially happy!  I spent sometime today decorating my classroom.  One of my favorite things I got for my classroom this year is a string of batik flags that show children from different countries all happy together around a picture of the Earth.  A lot of the teachers stopped in to introduce themselves to me and to say hi.  I feel very good about my new job.  I can't wait for school to start!

I will be starting my first year as the art teacher at Paddock Elementary school in Milan, Michigan in just a little while.  I am very excited to meet all of the teachers and students at Paddock.  Everyone I have met so far (teachers and principles) have been so nice.  Students in Milan are lucky to have such a great school district to belong to!  Check back to this page regularly for blogs about Paddock art!
